Layers of Fears Approximate Release Date and Change in Title

Bloober Team has announced an approximate release date for Layers of Fears, and in the process changed the game's title to one closer to a „name beloved” by fans of the original.

Bloober Team has made an interesting decision regarding their next game. From now on the second sequel to Layers of Fear is called... also Layers of Fear. So far, the developer has promoted its new work under the title Layers of Fears (e.g., with a trailer in August 2022).

The procedure in itself is not unusual, but in this case the application of it seems a bit strange. Usually developers want to indicate that the new installment of the series is somehow different from previous games. This can mean a complete reboot of the series or a new chapter in its history, sometimes with significant differences in gameplay. This was the case, for example, with the penultimate installments of the God of War and Doom series.

It is possible that similar motives guided Polish developers. However, in a post on Twitter Bloober Team explained that the reason for the title change was feedback from fans, who were said to "love the original name."

The trailer shown at the IGN Fan Fest 2023 event also revealed another, much more important piece of information about the game: the approximate release date. Layers of Fear will be released in June 2023. The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The trailer's description also informs that the set with the game will include the two previous parts of the series, the Inheritance DLC and the brand new DLCs titled The Final Note, which will enable the fans to look at the events of the first installment from a different perspective.
