Magic in Torment: Tides of Numenera is not really magic – Nano class overview

What looks like supernatural powers to a normal observer is actually ancient technology - at least in Torment: Tides of Numenera, inXile Entertainment's next classic RPG.

As Torment: Tides of Numenera is closing in toward its Steam Early Access release, planned for January 26, 2017, inXile Entertainment shares more and more info about their upcoming classic RPG. An interesting new thing (maybe not so new for the fans of the Numenera universe, but others may find it interesting) was revealed about the in-game magic, which is not really magic, but ancient technology understood and mastered only by a limited number of individuals, called Nanos. That detail aside, Nano class will be the local counterpart of other games’ sorcerer.

As explained in the video above, Nanos will get a base bonus to the intellect stat and knowledge of the Ninth World. They will have a selection of interesting abilities to choose from, including Scan Thoughts, which will let the player gain extra information about the characters they meet – this sounds perfect for a charismatic type of hero, whose best weapon is the word. Nanos will also be able to fight enemies, support party members, and summon minions like mages usually do – through a variety of flashy effects.

That’s just one of several Torment: Tides of Numenera playable classes. Two more – Jack, the versatile blade, and Glaive, the elite warrior – will be discussed next week.
