Microsoft Renames Game Pass on PC

Microsoft has renamed the PC version of its subscription service. From now on it functions under the name PC Game Pass.

Microsoft has changed the name of the subscription service for PC gamers. "Xbox Game Pass for PC" has been replaced by "PC Game Pass". This suggests that the corporation wants to differentiate between the two versions of the service and make it clear that you don't need an Xbox to use the PC version.

Thus, Microsoft currently offers three subscriptions - Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The latter provides access to the service on both PCs and consoles and also enables you to play via streaming from the cloud, so you can also play on mobile devices.

Microsoft has also shown its sense of humor and self-deprecation by releasing a video showing the "complicated" process of creating a new logo for the PC version of the service:

The change makes sense. Despite its efforts, Microsoft has failed to turn the term "Xbox" into a brand associated with gaming in general, rather than a specific line of consoles. On top of that, the new naming will help avoid confusion in situations where a particular game is only available in Game Pass on one of the platforms.

In addition, it was announced what other titles will be coming to the PC Game Pass offer:

  1. Sniper Elite 5 (this was revealed yesterday by the game's developers during its official announcement),
  2. Pigeon Simulator,
  3. Trek to Yomi,
  4. a yet unannounced game by Hugecalf Studios.

This is only an official disclosure of this list of titles. In fact, we got to know them earlier, as they were briefly visible in a humorous ad for the service shown during The Game Awards.

From these games, Sniper Elite 5, Trek to Yomi and an unannounced project by Hugecalf Studios will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass (the console version) offer. In turn, in the case of Pigeon Simulator so far only the PC version has been announced, but we wouldn't be surprised if in time it also found its way to consoles and Xbox Game Pass game catalog.
