The developers of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition had to apologize for changing the iconic intro, especially for removing the iconic sound effect.
The remaster of the cult Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is stirring controversy again - this time because of a screaming Space Marine.
The announcement of the "definitive" release of the legendary RTS has stirred up emotions, not all of them positive. Fans believed that the "better" graphics (improved, in their opinion, very modestly compared to the original) didn't justify the lack of opportunity for owners of the original production to get this "upgrade" for free.
Players were somewhat reassured by the news of a discount (-30%, but only for those with the "anniversary" edition in their collections) and a relatively low price ($29.99), as well as bug fixes. However, it was still difficult to talk about an outburst of enthusiasm from the community gathered around the Dawn of War series.
Apparently, fans can now add "heresy" to the list of accusations. Such was considered the decision to change a few sound effects in the opening animation of DoW, especially the guttural cry of one of the Blood Ravens when the Space Marines charge at the Orks. Instead of the iconic "roar," the sergeant speaks in the voice of... Gabriel Angelos (who doesn't appear in the video at all (via Reddit / Mein-MMO).
This isn't the only change - you can also hear the voices of a few other characters in the game - but it's the one that annoyed fans the most. A glance at social media and comments under the trailer leaves no doubt about the players' opinion on this matter.
In response, Relic Entertainment studio promised to bring back the sound from the original trailer, because "the iconic roar was even more beloved than we realized" (via YouTube / Reddit). The dev hasn't addressed the other changes, but some players are hoping that other (in their opinion) unsuccessful sound effect replacements will also be reversed.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition will be released on PC, on August 14th.
