Netflix's The Witcher Will Add Depth to Geralt's Disabilities

The showrunner of The Witcher series from Netflix, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, took inspiration from one of Twitter threads, which focused on Geralt's disabilities. The creator intends to use the theme in the series.

Very interesting discussions have recently taken place on Twitter on the profile of user @mustangsart. She works professionally as a disability consultant, and decided to use her knowledge to touch on a rather unusual, although important, topic from The Witcherbooks, ignored, according to her, both in CD Projekt RED's game trilogy as well as Netflix's recent show. It's about Geralt's physical dysfunction.

The Internet user has constructed a rather complex thread consisting of many tweets based on facts from Sapkowski's books. It all really began in volume two, titled Time of Contempt, in which the famous monster hunter suffered a serious elbow and femur injury. This was said to have visible consequences in the following parts of the book, for example in Baptism of Fire, when Geralt confesses his poor physical condition to Regis.

The author of the post also took into account the fact that Geralt was healed by the driads in the waters of Brokilon, but stressed that these, although they allowed him to function quite properly, did not eliminate the disability that will remind of itself from time to time in the future.

You will probably ask: who would take the comments and complaints of an ordinary fan seriously? Well, no one else but Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner of Netflix's Witcher. The author complains that she has read the books many times, but has never paid special attention to Geralt's general condition. After reading the tweets, the showrunners view on the matter was said to have changed dramatically - she thanked @mustangasrt and assured that the main character's disability would be included in the series.

Hissrich will even have some time to take into account the changes in the script, as a few days ago the production of the second season of The Witcher was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. This means we don't know whether the release date planned for 2021 will not be postponed.
