Rumor: New Star Wars Game Might Be Microsoft's Exclusive

Credible speculations have appeared on the web, according to which Microsoft is planning an exclusive Star Wars game. It is possible that it will be a title based on The Mandalorian.

Venture Beat's Jeff Grubb has made a name for himself as a reliable source of industry rumors. The latest episode of his Game Mess show proved to be exceptionally fruitful in this regard. It contained the following reports:

Microsoft is working on an exclusive Star Wars game. Could be based on Mandalorian

According to the journalist, Microsoft is working on a Star Warsgame, which is being developed as an exclusive for Xbox consoles and PCs. It is possible that the project is based on Star Wars: The Mandalorian, arumors of which appeared last week.

Such a project is possible at all thanks to the fact that in 2023 the license agreement providing Electronic Arts exclusive rights to Star Wars games will expire. EA will still be able to produce such items, but Disney will also grant rights to other companies. We know that Ubisoft is already working on its own Star Wars game, so the fact that Microsoft may also want to create its own project of this type is not a special surprise.

Other Star Wars games (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 and KOTOR remake)

Grubb also claims that Lucasfilm is currently negotiating agreements with many companies on the development of further Star Wars games. So it seems that the owner of the rights, Disney corporation, will follow in the footsteps of Games Workshop, which eagerly sells licenses for Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. This is good news, because a big problem of EA was how few Star Wars games were developed during the exclusive contract period.

Staying on the topic, it's worth mentioning that Game Reactor published a new edition of the Secret Summer Games compilation, which discusses unannounced official projects. Last year's edition informed about Far Cry 6, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Returnal and the remake of Demon's Souls and all these project eventually turned out confirmed. This time, editors revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is already in advanced stages of development and the release is scheduled for 2023.

In addition, the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is to be a priority for the Embracer Group, so the Aspyr Media, the studio responsible for the project, will receive an impressive budget and, above all, plenty of time for development so that the game will meet the hopes placed in it.

Update on The Coalition (Gears 5 devs)

Grubb also revealed what he knows about the current projects of The Coalition, creators of Gears 5. One of them is, of course, the next installment of Gears of War. Developers also help with Halo Infinite. The third game is most likely a new IP. Reports have reached the journalist that it may be the aforementioned adaptation of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, but he is not sure of these sources.

Battlefield 6 - first information coming next week

Finally, it's worth mentioning that according to Grubb, next week Electronic Arts and DICE should finally start revealing details about Battlefield 6.
