About 200 people laid off from the Xbox subordinate King Group will be replaced by AI. A letter sent to the company's employees has leaked.
In early July, we informed you about mass layoffs at Xbox. In total, over 9,000 people lost their jobs in Microsoft's gaming division, including around 200 employees from the King group. According to the latest reports, they will be replaced by AI tools that they helped create and train, confirming that the Redmond giant intends to heavily invest in this type of technology.
This is clear from an internal letter that surfaced online. The management is letting (former) employees know that the industry is changing rapidly and the company is no longer growing. That's why they decided to reorganize. Furthermore, it was confirmed that King will become a smaller company.
As we've talked about before, we are making several changes to get the business back to growth. Unlocking many more Al tools is one recent example. Investing more in marketing this year is another.
We're fortunate to have many talented individuals at King. But we also have a collective problem: the size and structure of the company often makes it difficult to get things done.
So we plan to simplify the organization – fewer layers, fewer overlapping remits, fewer hours spent on alignment, fewer people in meetings, fewer stakeholders for every project.
According to InsiderGaming, this is just the beginning of the whole process, which will also affect other studios from the Xbox family.
Xbox recently took a lot of heat from players for using artificial intelligence. Fans called out the company for mistakes like using incorrect graphics created by AI and got angry at the words of the developer Matt Turnbull, who suggested that laid-off employees should take advantage of... artificial intelligence.
