The PS4 system update 8.5 has been released aa open beta. Those who have received the code from Sony can share it with others. What changes does the new firmware introduce?

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Sony released a new firmware update for PS4;
  2. Version 8.5 removes Communities and adds additional group notification options.

Yesterday, Sony released a new PS4 firmware update, version 8.5. What changes does the new firmware bring to the console? Most of them are of little significe, although bearing in mind that Communities definitely disappeared from the console, it is worth to take a look at the list of changes.

Firmware 8.5 for the PS4 was released in the form of an open beta to those who subscribed to Sony's newsletter. In mailboxes we can find a code to share with up to 20 people.

According to Sony, the most important change in the 8.5 update is the option to disable the display of notifications from individual groups of which we are members. In addition, the possibility of requesting to join a gaming session founded by another player has been introduced. The company also changed the way of presenting what we are currently playing. If it's a title that we have hidden in our profile, others will not see that we are playing it.

As mentioned earlier, the Communities tab has been completely removed from the console's menu. At first, this idea was warmly welcomed by gamers, who promptly created more places where they could discuss and share game screenshots. However, they very quickly lost interest in the idea.

Sony warns that 8.5 firmware is in testing phase and there may be issues when using the console it's installed on. If we come across a bug, the Japanese company asks us to describe it and report it on a special feedback website.
