Ridley Scott Will Make a Movie About Napoleon
Ridley Scott, the creator of such hits as Gladiator, Alien or Blade Runner, is preparing a movie titled Kitbag, which will focus on Napoleon Bonaparte. The famous French leader is to be played by Joaquin Phoenix.
Ridley Scott has directed a number of historical films with great success. It is enough to mention such productions as Gladiator, Kingdom Come or Exodus: Gods and Kings. As reported by Deadline, another title will soon join this group. The director of Alien and Blade Runner, among others, plans to create another cinematic biography of Napoleon Bonaparte. The famous leader and French emperor is to be played by Joaquin Phoenix, this year's Oscar winner for his role in Joker, who already had the opportunity to work with Scott on the occasion of the aforementioned Gladiator.
The announced movie will be titled Kitbag. It was taken from the saying "There is a general's staff hidden in every soldier's kitbag". The production is supposed to be an "original and personal" look at Napoleon - his beginnings, great ambitions, the quick and ruthless journey to the imperial crown and a turbulent relationship with his wife Joséphine. The movie will also feature Bonaparte's most important battles, which are expected to show him as a strategic genius, an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.
David Scarpa is working on Kitbag's screenplay, who was also responsible for the dialogues in All the Money in the World or The Day the Earth Stood Still in 2008, among others. Apart from Scott, the producer of the whole movie will be Kevin Walsh. And these are all the details of the upcoming film that we know so far.
When can we expect the premiere of Kitbag? Probably not soon. Although Scott has already finished working on his latest film, The Last Duel with Adam Driver, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the lead roles, he is slowly preparing for the production of Gucci, telling about the murder of Maurizio Gucci. The photos for this movie, in which we will see such stars as Lady Gaga, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Jared Leto, are to start in March.
