RTX 3080 Scalper Battle Rages On Using Whatever Goes

Unequal fight of players against scalpers continues. A lot of fake GeForce RTX 3080 offers flooded eBay, all to make it harder for scalpers to earn money.

The would-be owners of the GeForce RTX 3080 decided to go to war with scalpers.
IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The new GeForce RTX 3080 GPU disappeared from the store shelves just after the launch.
  2. It turned out that bots were behind it, used by people who want to make money quickly.
  3. The players have decided to fight back and make life harder for the sellers on eBay.
  4. Nvidia apologized for the problems and announced new deliveries.

The battle between the scalpers (persons buying an item to sell it for increased price) and players interested in the GeForce RTX 3080 GPU continues. Shortly after the cards were (not) made available for sold and bought, one of the annoyed people decided to write a script that raised the bidding amounts in scalper auctions on eBay.

Unequal fight against crooks

More players have entered the action and have decided to flood eBay with GeForce RTX 3080-related offers. Although in this case we can't exactly talk about the cards, as the auctions include GeForce RTX 3080 drawings, a calculator and a "liquid-cooling block" (in a plastic bottle).

It's just a small part of bid trolling on eBay.

In parallel, there is an action to raise big in scalpers' auctions to astronomical levels. At the moment of preparing this news, the most expensive auction of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 card reached the price of more than 50 thousand dollars. Of course, the transaction will not be finalized - those who hoped for a quick and good income will have to do without.

GeForce RTX 3080 at the price of a premium car? One, please.

Who will win? Nvidia

However it may sound, Nvidia also took the side of the players, first apologizing for the method of selling their products, and then announcing that another batch of GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition cards will be available this week on the official website. Let's hope that this time it will be possible to introduce better protection against bots.

Though that might be hard to come by. The bot that made it possible to buy items from the official website so quickly was written by people focused around Bounce Alerts. They deal in buying expensive items (electronic equipment, clothes, shoes) and reselling them. For access to the tool, the creators charge $75 a month, further limiting the number of people who can use it.

Expensive tools will not replace intelligence. Satisfied with the bot, the users have snitched on its creators.

However, this does not stop those interested, who, thanks to the bot, can sell expensive items with a significant profit. There are many indications that the second round in the fight between players and scalpers will not bring a solution. Unless Nvidia floods the market with new cards, but we should not really expect that. At least not in the coming weeks.
