Sons of Valhalla is a Charming Nordic Sister to Kingdom Two Crowns
Vikings, beautiful pixel art, base building, village looting and sieges - this is the combination that independent studio Pixel Chest wants to offer us in its debut game Sons of Valhalla.
Video games dealing - more or less loosely - with Vikings and/or Norse mythology have been quite numerous in recent years. We can mention such titles as Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Expeditions: Viking, Northgard, God of War or Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and the list doesn't end there.
In anticipation of the sequels to the first and fourth of these positions, you should be interested in much smaller, but equally interesting game - at least on paper. We are talking about Sons of Valhalla, the debut game of the independent studio Pixel Chest.
The road through Kickstarter
The title has been revealed in July 2020. A few weeks ago the creators released its beta version to the people who supported the project on Kickstarter. It also received its tab on Steam - it shows that the full version of the game will be released by the end of 2022.
Story and gameplay
In addition, from the description we can learn that Sons of Valhalla will be a side-scrolling strategy game, in which we will have to expand a settlements. Necessary resources for this purpose will be obtained from looting villages and raiding fortresses located in England during the Viking era.
We will play as one of the latter, namely a certain Thorald Olavson. The main goal of the protagonist is to take revenge on Jarl Valgard, who burned down his village and kidnapped the love of his life.

Sounds like a pretext? Well, the story will probably be the background for the gameplay. Fortunately, it promises to be interesting, because in addition to building we will have a lot of fighting on our hands. In the clashes we'll use characteristic Viking long boats filled with warriors or various siege machines. In addition, Thorald will not only give orders, but also wield a sword - for which the player's dexterity will be necessary.
Beautiful graphics
What distinguishes Sons of Valhalla from other indies is neither the story nor the gameplay, but beautiful pixel art graphics, which you can admire on the screenshots and trailer included in this message.
