Sony on Nausea in VR: It'll Pass Once You Get Used to It

Shuhei Yoshida from Sony Interactive Entertainment believes that players are slowly beginning to overcome the ailments associated with playing in virtual reality. According to WWS CEO, adaptation is the cure for „VR motion sickness”.

"Does it hurt? You'll have to walk it off, sir, it'll stop." Shuhei Yoshida, the doctor of the industry.

Two days ago Shuhei Yoshida, CEO of Worldwide Studios (Sony Interactive Enterteinment), gave an interesting interview to the Japanese magazine Famitsu. The conversation was translated (with the help of Google Translator) by UploadVR. The head of WWS talked about a certain type of motion sickness that can be experienced by goggle users of virtual reality. It is particularly noticeable when a VR game simulates walking or takes control of the camera. Unfortunately, Shuhei Yoshida did not share any way to protect the players from this ailment. Instead, he said he believed that users had already got used to virtual reality.

So it seems that Sony (and probably other hardware manufacturers) got literally zero ideas for making the first moments with virtual reality easier for gamers. The only remedy is just getting used to it. The CEO of WWS used examples from Borderlands 2 VR and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR to support his thesis. Both productions offer quite comfortable fast travel options, but also smooth movement:

The human brain is getting used to it. As the brain gets used to VR, sensory disagreements are less likely to occur,” said Yoshida

It is possible that soon we will see games that will not have this problem. Maybe the first one will be Iron Man VR - a Camouflaj game with a unique control system. It is said that moving around in the game is very natural and does not cause any discomfort to the player. What do you think about that? Does the attitude of the WWS boss speak to you and you also think it's a matter of getting used to?
