In a few hours, Sovereign Syndicate, a steampunk RPG inspired by the cult Disco Elysium, will releaseon PC.
In 2019, Disco Elysium blew players off their feet. It was immediately known that the production would become an inspiration for many developers in this genre. Today marks the debut of one of the first fruits of this wave in the form of Sovereign Syndicate.
Sovereign Syndicate is an RPG set in a universe combining elements of steampunk and fantasy. When designing the game, the authors were heavily inspired by Disco Elysium, adding a handful of ideas from the Baldur's Gate series, too. The game puts a lot of emphasis on freedom of action and a non-linear plot, and characters in the world. You will not find a classic combat system here. Instead, the skirmishes take the form of a series of choices and their consequences shown through comic-book panels. Furthermore, aspects of our character, such as their gender, race, appearance or previous decisions, affect interactions with all NPCs.
Several of them have already appeared. At the time of writing this news, the game has an average rating of 78% according to Metacritic. See a few examples below.
The game clearly appealed to the reviewers. Most of them praise the world and the plot (although there are opinions that its final act is disappointing, and the story ends too abruptly), as well as gameplay mechanics, in which combat plays a tertiary role.
In the end, it's worth mentioning the system specs for the game.
