GSC Game World has announced that Stalker 2 will arrive on PS5. The news was revealed via a clever trailer with a character in the game playing the game.
Today, GSC Gameworld announced that Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be arriving on PlayStation 5 later this year. The long-awaited entry in the beloved action series has been available only on PC and Xbox since its launch last November. While we don’t have an exact release date yet for the PS5 version, we do know that it will also be available in an enhanced PS5 Pro version.
The announcement trailer was a clever in-game joke, where the characters in Stalker 2 are playing Stalker 2 on a PlayStation console. The first-person perspective of the player convinces the Colonel to check on his soldiers, who are “turning into zombies,” so that they can take a turn playing the game instead. For a game that hadn’t already been out for several months, it might have been better to showcase some gameplay, but this is great. Stalker 2 will arrive on PlayStation sometime in late 2025, according to the trailer.
This might not seem like a big deal. Stalker 2 isn’t a first-party Xbox game or anything. But many games that started as Xbox console exclusives have been finding success on the rival console. Over the last few months, games like Indian Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 have been topping the sales charts on the PlayStation store. Stalker 2 becoming available to a whole new group of console players could result in a significant sales boost.
Comments on the YouTube trailer are generally supportive and excited about the announcement. One user wrote, “Welcome to the Zone, PlayStation people. Best tips are to conserve as much ammo and money as possible...” Many other players also shared tips in the comments. Some users also mention that using mods is their preferred experience, but the team behind Stalker 2 has already discussed bringing mod support to consoles as well as PC.
Many console-exclusive games typically have one year of exclusivity, so while the trailer only specifies “late 2025,” it would make sense for the PS5 version to arrive in November. Though, for now, that is just speculation. We will have to wait to learn more.
