This month, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will gain access to a bunch of great games. Today, Cyberpunk 2077 joins the catalogue, with more to follow.
Today, PlayStation has announced a handful of games coming to PS Plus this month, with one incredible game, Cyberpunk 2077, available for free today, July 9th. Several more games will be coming to the service next week. Other games include a heartfelt action-adventure from Don’t Nod, a classic co-op action rogue-like, and the full release of a popular early-access game on Steam. These releases are part of the ongoing PlayStation Plus 15th anniversary celebration, with all the details available on the PlayStation.Blog.
Ten games are being added to the PS Plus library this month. Only a few games are exclusive to Premium members, and some games are available on both PS4 and PS5, but not all. Please check the details carefully. If you only have a PS Plus Essential subscription, this article is not for you, but you can check out the three free games available to all PS Plus members this month.
For anyone who hasn’t picked up Cyberpunk 2077 since it launched back in 2020, now is a great time. I wouldn’t blame you if you missed out CD Projekt Red’s open-world sci-fi RPG when it first launched. It’s gone down in history as one of the most infamous launches in video game history. But since then, the game has made a miraculous recovery, even earning a Game Award win in 2023 for its Phantom Liberty DLC. Cyberpunk 2077 is available for free for PS Plus Extra and Premium members today on both PS5 and PS4.
Up to six players can work together online in Abiotic Factor, a co-op survival crafting game set in a chaotic, violent, sci-fi world. This game has been available in Early Access on Steam since May of 2024, but is finally reaching 1.0. In that time, it has earned “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews from players, with 96% of over twenty-three thousand reviews being positive. Abiotic Factor will be available for PS Plus Extra and Premium members on PS5 starting July 22nd, when the game also leaves Early Access. It will also feature crossplay between Steam, PS5, and Xbox.
From Don’t Nod, the developers behind the original Life is Strange and Jusant, another free game on PS Plus this month, comes Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. This game launched early last year to praise from critics and fans. While not perfect, it was a compelling premise and story of two ghost hunters who explore the haunted wilds of North America in 1695. Tragically, one of them is fatally wounded, becoming the very thing the pair has hunted for so long. How do these two handle this complex situation? Like many other games on this list, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden will be available on PS Plus Extra and Premium July 15th, on PS5.
Hopoo Games released their smash-hit sequel, Risk of Rain 2, in 2020. Since then, it’s been some of the most fun I’ve had in a co-op action roguelike. Progress through various biomes, fighting off progressively more challenging hordes of alien creatures. Play as one of many character options, though many of them require some unlocking. This roguelike has only been around for a handful of years, but has already influenced many other roguelikes in the genre. If you haven’t given Risk of Rain 2 a try yet, July 15th, when it becomes available for PS Plus Extra and Premium members on PS4 and PS5, is a great opportunity.
Amazon Games’ MMORPG, New World: Aeternum, finally arrived on consoles late last year after several years of only being available on PC. This month, the massively multiplayer game will be available for free for PS Plus Extra and Premium members. It’s not often that an MMO arrives on a console, but if you haven’t tried it yet, July 15th is an excellent opportunity for PS Plus Extra and Premium members on PS5 to jump into the supernatural island full of strange inhabitants, ruins, and horrors.
For a slightly different vibe or age group, Bluey: The Videogame will also be arriving on PS Plus this month. Explore a brand new story with the same beloved characters across four interactive adventures. Take on simple challenges, such as platforming and keeping a ball airborne. This is also the only game on this list that features local multiplayer, so gather friends and family to play alongside you on July 15th when Bluey: The Videogame arrives for PS Plus Extra and Premium members on PS4 and PS5.
If you’re a fan of the classic Zoo Tycoon games, then this is the game for you. Planet Zoo launched on consoles last Spring, but has been available on PC since 2019. This game advertises “authentic living animals who think, feel, and explore the world you create…” via the game’s Steam description. These classic computer games aren’t always the easiest to bring to a console, but this month is the perfect opportunity to give them a try. Planet Zoo is available for free to PS Plus Extra and Premium members on July 15th for PS5.
Don’t be intimidated by the number six in the title; you don’t need to have played all the previous Tropico games to jump into 2019’s Tropico 6. The city-builder strategy game launched on modern consoles in 2022, finally allowing those players to decide how to represent El Presidente throughout the four distinct eras on the island archipelago of Tropico—feared dictator or peace-loving statesman? You decide, when Tropico 6 becomes available for free to PS Plus Extra and Premium members on July 15th, available on both PS4 and PS5.
Two of the classic vehicular combat games starring Sweet Tooth will be available later this month, but only to PS Plus Premium members starting on July 15th, just in time for the premiere of Twisted Metal season two on July 31st. These games aren’t exactly new; both were released before the year 2000. But if you’re a fan of the series and have been patiently waiting for something new since 2012, this could be a great way to get that experience.
