Electronic Arts' recent actions have contributed to the deteriorating mood not only among Cliffhanger Games employees but also among other EA teams.
Patrick Wren, Senior Designer of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, expressed his concern about the current mood among the members of Respawn Entertainment studio. According to his words, the morale among the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall is "all-time low." The dev didn't reveal what's causing the negative vibes, but it's probably because of a series of decisions made by Electronic Arts, including canceling three projects in the last two years.
Morale has been at an all-time low. I can say that much - Wren wrote in a post published on BlueSky.
In 2023, EA was supposed to cancel the Titanfall and Apex Legends crossover, and a year later, another Respawn Entertainment project was scrapped - an FPS set in the Star Wars universe, whose protagonist was supposedly the Mandalorian. Meanwhile, in March of this year, Electronic Arts abandoned the development of a mysterious shooter.
Right now, the developers at Respawn (who are preparing the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series) cannot complain about being bored. Nevertheless, poor moods can affect their work and the quality of the final production.
Fans hoping for a third installment of the Star Wars: Battlefront series from EA have no reason to be happy either. Journalists from IGN managed to access an internal email in which the CEO of Electronic Arts, Laura Miele, noted that "the company is focusing on a small handful of franchises going forward: Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends."
Considering that among the mentioned brands there is no Star Wars (of course, apart from the third Star Wars Jedi in development), it can be treated as a confirmation that EA has finished with the popular FPS series set in a distant galaxy.
The above information was published on the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit and, as you can easily guess, it met with considerable dissatisfaction from the users of the platform. Battlefront II recently broke its own activity record on Steam. Since the message of one of the actors from the show Andor calling for people to join the game, even more players have logged in.
In their comments, internet users do not hide their disappointment and speculate who, besides EA, could revive Star Wars: Battlefront. Among the proposals is the Arrowhead studio, which gave us Helldivers. However, others argue that only EA has the appropriate experience to give players the installment of the series they dream of.
The low morale of the Respawn Entertainment team and the disappointment of Star Wars Battlefront fans are nothing compared to what the former employees of the recently closed Cliffhanger Games studio are feeling.
They don't hide that they are struggling to come to terms with the situation, especially since Electronic Arts' decision also meant the cancellation of work on Black Panther, which, according to the concept artist Karla Ortiz, was "amazing and stunning" (via BlueSky). Similar to another canceled superhero game.
