This has got to be Stardew Valley’s weirdest baby bug so far. Let’s just hope he doesn’t start growing feathers instead of hair.
Stardew Valley is packed with quirky little surprises that we continue to uncover even years after its release. Despite Eric Barone’s repeated claims that he’s done updating the game, he keeps dropping patches, each one adding even more oddities to explore. While it seems like he’s now fully focused on finishing Haunted Chocolatier, there’s still no shortage of hidden things waiting to be found in SV. Like this unexpected bug someone just stumbled across.
Aging-emo-kid shared a bizarre Stardew Valley bug on Reddit, complete with screenshots. They named their newborn baby Crow, and the game got confused and swapped the baby’s portrait with an actual crow.
On the relationships list, baby Crow looked totally normal. But when they checked the gift section, there it was: a literal bird with glowing red eyes staring back at them.
Kinda wondering if he'll change into an actual crow once he's no longer an infant
It probably isn’t a hidden Easter egg, more likely the name Crow is tied internally in the game’s code to the NPC crow introduced in Update 1.6, the one that lets you buy back rare lost items. Now people are wondering if this works with other NPC names you normally can’t give gifts to. One person on Reddit even asked:
So if I name my baby Gunther, it’ll be the museum Gunther’s picture?
I’d say this is definitely worth testing out. But since I already have both kids in my current save (and that’s the in-game limit), I’ll leave the fun of discovering this to you. Or maybe I’ll just go and look for a Prismatic Shard and pray a visit in the Witch’s Hut…
If Stardew Valley is already this delightfully weird, just imagine what Haunted Chocolatier is going to be like. Eric Barone’s said it’ll have a bigger world, so I’m really hoping that means even more strange and unexpected moments, just on a larger scale.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
