Starfield is one of the most anticipated items to debut this year. With a great game comes great responsibility - well, or at least a lot of questions that fans would like to know the answers to. Todd Howard, director of Starfield, took part in an interview that was published on the YouTube channel of Kinda Funny Games. From it we learned some new things about Bethesda's upcoming work.

  1. In Starfield there will be no option to fish with a fishing rod. While this question posed to Howard may seem strange, many sandbox games have such an option, and in a space RPG it wouldn't be so pointless, since we could at least sell the fish we catch. Besides, Skyrim allowed for fishing (in the Anniversary Edition).
  2. As for accessibility options - there will be a large font mode, which will satisfy those who intend to play from afar on large screens.
  3. Asked about Steam Deck compatibility, the developer said he would like to address the topic at another time.
  4. For a long time we have known, that in Starfield we will be able to visit about 1,000 planets, both those with a single type of biome and more diverse ones. Howard pointed out that only 10% of the worlds will have life. Due to the scale of the game, some locations will be procedurally generated, while larger clusters have been prepared "manually" by people at Bethesda - the director hopes that despite the size, players will enjoy the exploration in Starfield.
  5. On the planets we will have to move on foot - the game does not include the option of riding animals or driving vehicles. Instead, the player will speed up their journey by using "boost packs" (probably something like jetpacks from Mass Effect: Andromeda) and by taking advantage of the variable gravity on planets.
  6. There are four companions belonging to the Constellation, with whom we can have a romance in Starfield and this will involve additional tasks.
  7. If we want, all members of our crew can be robots.
  8. All ships in the game can be customized, but those stolen will have to be re-registered first for a fee.
  9. The game, like other Bethesda games, will not lack full support for mods. According to Howard, what is important for the developers is not so much to allow for modding of Starfield, but participating in making it as easy as possible for the modders.

This is a lot of new information, but we still have a lot of unknowns, as the developer decided not to answer some questions during the interview. Among other things, he left out the topic of black holes in Starfield.

Starfield will debut on September 6 on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Simultaneously, the game will hit Xbox/PC Game Pass.
