Valve has published an website with answers to frequently asked questions about Steam Deck. Check out the most interesting case here.

This December, first units of Valve's new portable platform will be sent to people who have placed pre-orders. Interest in Steam Deck is growing, so it's a good time to take a look at the newly released official answers to some questions (Steam Deck FAQ) that are being asked about the new device.

Steam Deck FAQ in a nutshell:

  • We'll be able to use multiple Steam accounts, and each will have its own settings and save game slots.
  • We'll be able to run games outside of Steam.
  • Improved Proton compatibility on Steam Deck will also translate to all systems that use Proton.
  • SteamOS' offline mode will work in the same way as Steam on PC (if a game does not require an internet connection, we'll be able to play it without one).
  • Steam Deck will use the ext4 file system; We will be able to format memory cards to this system on the handheld.
  • Thanks to the Remote Play function we can use the device as a PC controller.
  • Steam Deck is not optimized to run VR applications.
  • All models have an IPS screen. The model with 512 GB of memory is additionally equipped with anti-reflective etched glass.
  • The charging cable is 1.5 meters long.
  • The touchscreen supports multi-touch.
  • At the moment, Steam Deck can only be ordered through Steam. In the future, it may appear in retail stores.
  • Docking the device does not affect performance. In mobile mode, Steam Deck runs at full performance.
  • We will have access to the BIOS menu, and thus it will be possible to install several operating systems simultaneously (multi-boot).

The FAQ page may be updated with more answers to community questions, so keep an eye on it. If you're interested in buying one, at the moment the Steam Deck can only be reserved (cost less than $5, only one reservation per Steam account). Invitations to order will be sent out by Valve by December 2021. The next wave of handheld deliveries is scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.
