Steam Top May Releases Include Resident Evil Village and Chair Simulator

May on Steam was marked by big premieres such as Resident Evil Village, Days Gone or Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Old exclusives from Epic Games Store also did well. On the other hand, the biggest free-to-play debuts include Chair Simulator.

Valve released a list of May's biggest launches on Steam. The criterion was the revenue generated in the first two weeks after the launch. The big hits turned out to be, among others, Resident Evil Village and Subnautica: Below Zero.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster, both refreshed versions of classic RPGs, were also very popular. Biomutant and Days Gone were also warmly received.

Also included are MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, Maneater and SnowRunner, which were previously exclusive to Epic Games Store. This shows that there is no shortage of players willing to wait for their desired games to be available on Steam.

Valve does not provide detailed sales fogures, and the order on the lists is always random. Therefore, in the following list we use data from the paid version of SteamSpy. Its estimates are not always accurate, but it's better than nothing.

The biggest F2P releases of May

Valve also published an additional list, focused on the most popular free-to-play launches of May. In this case, the criterion was the activity record. We've sorted the following list according to the overall activity record of a given game, not just the one achieved in May, as this gives a better idea of the level of success a given production has achieved on Steam.

May was a month clearly slower than usual in terms of free-to-play premieres, so the top five included humorous productions like Slappyball and Chair Simulator, with activity records of several hundred people playing simultaneously.
