Yes, we're talking about insect repellent sprays, or maybe insecticides, either way, something to help you deal with an overload of bugs, especially during summer vacation. And there can be plenty of them, particularly in the woods. So if you're planning a camping trip, make sure bug spray is packed in your backpack.

The common bug spray ingredient DEET was developed by the U.S. Army in 1946 to protect soldiers in jungle warfare. It was made available to the public in 1957. But not all bug sprays are chemical heavy. Some use natural ingredients like citronella, lemongrass, eucalyptus, or lavender – scents bugs hate but humans often enjoy.

Bug spray helps because mosquitoes can smell human scent and CO2 from up to 100 feet away. A good repellent masks your scent and confuses them. Bug sprays can also deter ticks, gnats, biting flies, no-see-ums, and even fleas, making them useful in way more situations than just summer nights.
