RTSs are gone, or at least pushed aside by the winds of history and change, but we keep many of them in our hearts. One of my favorites, along with Stronghold or Original War, was Cossacks from GSC, which later gave us STALKER.

In the era of the first PlayStation, Sony was just building its catalog of brands. An important role in this process was played by Syphon Filter, which, although somewhat forgotten, still enjoys cult game status.

The first Icewind Dale from Black Isle was an interesting change from Baldur's Gate, and a so-so competitor to Diablo. Unfortunately, Icewind Dale 2 was left far behind by its rivals, which is a shame, because after some time, it is one of the best isometric RPGs.

At the end of the 20th century, Sony spent more than $16 million on a jRPG that would stand toe-to-toe with the Final Fantasy series. The Legend of Dragoon didn't knock Square's games off their pedestal, but fans still dream of a sequel.

Failed experiments are part of the process. After the successful Divine Divinity, Larian had a lot to learn before it developed a style that RPG fans around the world recognize today.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a hack'n'slash action RPG that has aged remarkably well. This compact title can still appeal, and its size and lack of complexity mean that basically anyone can play it.

Although most video games glorify the heroic exploits of virtual soldiers, presenting war as if it were a great adventure, there are occasionally titles that attempt to present a more realistic picture of armed conflicts.

There was a time when Ubisoft's portfolio was truly diverse. From under the wings of the French publisher came a fairly successful survival horror, which, however, failed to put up an even fight against Resident Evil 4, released a little earlier.

Sanitarium was one of DreamForge Intertainment studio's most ambitious projects. To this day, it remains one of the most unique games a player can experience.

Stormfront Studios won the affection of many players with its Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers game. The launch on Steam of their latest successful title, Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, is a good opportunity to recall this production.

A private detective, a planet, and a superhero walk into a bar. That's not the beginning of a bad joke, but an absurd everyday life in Anachronox. Inspired by Chrono Trigger, the game has outgrown the Ion Storm studio. Nevertheless, fans are still waiting for the story's finale.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is a now forgotten title that introduced this post-apocalyptic universe to console players long before Fallout 3. It was also Interplay's swan song.

Project I.G.I. is a game that, to this day, many players recall with nostalgia. And for good reason - the title of Innerloop Studios had the potential to have a real chance against the giants of the tactical shooter genre, but it lacked something.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, MicroProse was the undisputed king of the simulator genre. Its games perfectly combined accessible gameplay with realism. One title, however, was somewhat at odds with realism.

In anticipation of Duke Nukem Forever, fans of the franchise received a spin-off of the series. Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project was a good game, so to speak, returning to the roots of the series.

In 2001, the game—now described by its developers as the precursor to the Souls series—was released on PC. While that claim may be somewhat exaggerated, Severance: Blade of Darkness still managed to captivate many players.

A little more than two years before Shepard began his fight with the Reapers, another game with the potential to kick off a sweeping galactic saga saw the light of day. Advent Rising was a title shaped in part by sci-fi legend Orson Scott Card.

Free sword control, brutal gameplay with limb-cutting, and a high level of difficulty - this is what the Treyarch studio tried to do in 1998, when releasing Die by the Sword.

Deus Ex almost got a third installment years before the release of Human Revolution. However, Crystal Dynamics' masterpiece ultimately went in a different direction, evolving into a cyberpunk shooter called Project: Snowblind.
