Team17, the company known for creating the iconic Worms series and the release of the well-reviewed Dredge, is said to have been hit by numerous layoffs. Even the current CEO, Michael Pattison, had to say goodbye to his job.

Wave of layoffs at Team17

As reported by Eurogamer, about 50 people from the QA department were said to have lost their jobs (in the future testing of more games will be supervised by third-party partners). In addition, Michael Pattison said goodbye to the position of CEO, which, according to VG247 took place by mutual consent. The decision may be related to, among other things, the very poor reception of the changes in Hell Let Loose and the marketing slip-up regarding that game.

At the end of the day, Team 17 is in for some big changes, and let's hope it will work out for the publisher in the long run. The company's upcoming plans include such games as Headbangers: Rhythm Royale or Classified: France '44.

Disturbing situation in the industry

Recently, layoffs in the game industry have been occurring quite frequently, and on a sizable scale. Recently we reported, that about 800 people employed by Epic Games will say goodbye to their jobs. Tim Sweeney issued an announcement, which indicates that such a decision is nothing more than cost-cutting, because, as he admitted, the company has long been "spending more money than it makes."

Another unpleasant situation is the one that befell Creative Assembly. The studio was working on Hyenas and at the "final stretch" SEGA decided to cancel the game, explaining the decision by the "lower profitability of the company's games in Europe." The studio confirmed that the cancellation of Hyenas may lead to layoffs, although at the same time it indicated that it would try to ensure that the problems would affect as few employees as possible (e.g. by transferring them to other teams).
