The Day Before Devs Assure That the Game Exists; Everyone Will 'Wee the Truth Soon' [UPDATE]

The confusion surrounding The Day Before continues. The game has disappeared from Steam, and the release has been delayed for several months. The suspicious and unexpected situation surrounding Fntastic's game has caused some people to question the existence of the title.

Update

It's possible that in a few hours we'll know some of the "truth" that developers from the Fntastic mentioned a few days ago. According to information provided on the game's Discord channel by one of the moderators, today we will see gameplay from The Day Before (via: PCGamer). We don't know if this will be the previously announced footage, as no details were provided. The release of the 10-minute video was also not announced in any way on Fntastic's social media channels, and on YouTube we have yet to see any countdown. So it remains to rely on news from Discord.

Original message (January 27)

Yesterday revealed a big question mark above The Day Before. The game's release was fast approaching, but the developers unexpectedly delayed the debut from March 1 to November 10, 2023. The removal of the item from Steam was also an unusual action. What's more, the chief moderator of the discord server dedicated to the upcoming game - WHOLF - wonders if the game even exists. Representatives of Fntastic decided to address the issue in an interview with IGN.

Legal pushback

In yesterday's text we reported that the disappearance of The Day Before from Steam and the delayed release was explained at first by technical issues on Valve's side, but eventually Fntastic presented a lengthy statement on Twitter. Representatives of the company informed the community about legal problems related to the rights to the game's trademark, which was seized by a private individual.

Fntastic's response

The message spread across the Internet. As a result, the developers decided to speak up, trying to quell all speculation. In an interview with IGN they stated that The Day Before indeed does exists.

"We only believe in the final product. No matter what anyone says, you’ll see for yourself on November 10 this year. We hope that after the game's success, we’ll give people faith that in this life, if you persevere toward a dream, it will come true, despite all the obstacles and doubts."

"The storm will calm down eventually, and time will put everything in its place. When the game comes out, people will finally see the truth,"

The developers reminded that they have been working on the game for about four years, and the time spent on the work has not been in vain. In addition, Fntastic insists that it did not take funds for production from third parties:

"We didn't take a penny from people: no crowdfunding, no pre-orders, no donations. The game is fully funded by Mytona, one of the largest mobile publishers in the world, who checked the game's build at every milestone per our contract."

The company is fully focused on the development of The Day Before. The developers also assure that the new release date was deliberately scheduled so late to make sure that the legal perturbations would be completely resolved:

"We planned to move the game's release before and plan to announce it with [publisher - ed. note] Mytona in a 10-minute gameplay video. And then you all know what happened. So to be on the safe side, to ensure there are no more transfers, we, along with the publisher, chose November 10."

The time is to be used to improve the game.

As a reminder, this is the second delay. The first was in May last year as a result of moving the game to Unreal Engine 5.

It is worth mentioning that Fntastic is another Russian studio that has fled the country. The company was originally founded in Yakutia. The developers moved to Singapore. They are assisted in their work by people from different parts of the world (such as the Netherlands and Thailand). Interestingly, many of them do it on a volunteer basis. You can read more about this in our June 2022 news. Mytona, on the other hand, is also a company originating from Russia. Its headquarters are currently located in New Zealand, and it additionally has offices in Singapore, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia and Serbia. Founded in 2012, the company develops and publishes games.
