Weather May Determine Life and Death in The Day Before

We have learned new information regarding the post-apocalyptic survival game The Day Before. In an interview with Wccftech Ed Gotovtsev, head of Fntastic, revealed more details about the game.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • We got new information about The Day Before;
  • Open world in the game is to contain a variety of locations, including cities, villages, meadows and forests - all without loading screens;
  • A large role is to play the weather, which can both help and hinder us;
  • The game is to be devoid of experience points and progress will be measured by "reputation".

Recently we got another gameplay from The Day Before, a survival MMO set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. We learned then the rough outline of the vehicle driving model. In the meantime, the devs, or to be more precise, Fntastic's studio leader, Ed Gotovtsev decided to reveal a bit more on Wccftech.com.

Among the many topics discussed in the winterview, the issue of the open world and its structure comes to the fore. The map in The Day Before is supposed to be varied, and its traversal smooth.

"The Day Before features a large open world that you can freely navigate both on foot and by car without any loading screens. The focus is on the big city and its surroundings, but players will also be able to explore farms, vast meadows, small settlements, majestic forests, and snow-capped mountains."

An important aspect of the game is to be able to adapt to the weather conditions. After all, as befits a survival game, we can not only die at the hands of the undead or from another player's bullet, but also a powerful storm can kill us off.

"The main thing is not to get caught in a storm, because even the most equipped people will not survive on the street for more than 5 minutes."

However, the weather can also work in our favor:

"At night, if you are lucky and it starts snowing, the wind will muffle the sounds and you can safely make your way unnoticed to any places, even the most dangerous ones."

In The Day Before , we will definitely have to face at least two types of enemies: human and zombie. We don't know how many types of undead we'll encounter, but Fntastic aims at "realistic" portrayal of the living dead. There's no need to expect special monsters like in Left 4 Dead. Nevertheless, the devs emphasize that even one zombie can be a real threat.

"In our game, zombies are divided into realistic varieties, for example, by their physique. Zombies react to sounds and rely on sight, and by the way, if you carry too many things, the sounds you make will be louder, and the chance that you will be heard will increase."

We still don't know much about combat against live opponents. According to Gotovtsev, in The Day Before we'll be able to experience any kind of interaction with another player. Both cooperation between survivors and theft in order to obtain items will be possible. Details about how PvP will look like are not yet known.

What we do know is that there will be no experience levels in the game, which will differentiate Fntastic's game from The Division, which is often compared to it. The player will be rewarded for progress with special reputation points, about which we will learn more in the near future.

The Day Before is scheduled to launch on Steam this year, but the devs don't rule out developing a next-gen console version in the future.
