The Elder Scrolls 6 Won't Launch Until End of The Decade, Phil Spencer Suggests

During the court hearing, Microsoft's Phil Spencer said that it has not yet been decided whether The Elder Scrolls VI will be a title exclusive to PC and Xbox consoles, and that's because, as he explains, the game will be released in five years at the earliest.

This week in California, we witness the hearing regarding Microsoft's approval of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. During it, interesting things were said about upcoming projects by Bethesda Softworks, another publisher that was bought out by the Redmond giant in 2020.

  1. During the evidentiary hearing, the head of the Xbox division, Phil Spencer, stated, that no decision has yet been made on whether The Elder Scrolls VI will be a title exclusive to PC and Xbox consoles.
  2. This is interesting because in 2021 Spencer said, that he could not imagine that The Elder Scrolls VI was released on other platforms. At the hearing, he was asked about this statement, but replied that he did not recall the exact statement, but if he made it, it was based on market realities at the time, and the current situation is different.
  3. Spencer explains that the release of The Elder Scrolls VI will take place in five years or more. Therefore, it is impossible to say today what platforms the title will launch on.
  4. Similar is to be the case with The Outer Worlds 2 from Obsidian, which is also owned by Microsoft. During the hearing, Matt Booty from the management of the Xbox division said that no decision has yet been made on which platforms this sequel will launch on.
  5. On the other hand, the Indiana Jones game, which is being developed by Machine Games, studio well-known for the Wolfenstein series, will not be released on Sony consoles. Here, however, Microsoft defends itself by saying that Sony itself is doing exactly the same thing, creating exclusives with characters such as Spider-Man and Wolverine, all of which are, after all, owned by the Disney corporation.
  6. The Redmond giant also admitted that except for Minecraft it has not been successful in the mobile market. One of the main reasons for the Activision Blizzard acquisition is said to be the fact that part of the deal will be the studio King.com, which is a giant of mobile games.
  7. Microsoft wanted to acquire Zynga, another popular mobile game studio, but it was Take-Two Interactive that eventually bought out the developer.
