The Mandalorian Remains the Main Reason For Subscribing to Disney+

Between November 12, 2019 and February 17, 2020 the most watched TV series among Americans subscribing to both Disney+ and Netflix was the Mandalorian. However, it was the only series available on the former platform to make it to the top ten of the list.

The Mandalorian was a success.
IN A NUTSHELL
  1. The most watched series among the surveyed group of Americans subscribing to both Netflix and Disney+ is The Mandalorian.
  2. Only one more show available on Disney+ made it to the top fifty - The Simpsons.
  3. Nearly 75% of people in the research group use Netflix more often than Disney+.

Nearly 29 million. That's the number of Disnet+ subscribers in early February, according to Bob Iger, the former CEO of Disney . This is a very good result for a relatively fresh VoD platform, which has yet to launch in all countries around the world. What attracted the audience to it? To a certain extent, the answer to this question is a survey carried out by Reelgood's providers (via Cord Cutters News). They took a group of 45,000 Americans who subscribe to both Disney+ and Netflix, and checked which productions were the most popular among them between November 12, 2019 (the launch of the latter service overseas) and February 17, 2020.The Mandalorian was on the first place when it comes to TV series.

The success of Jon Favreau's Star Wars show is not particularly shocking. It was one of the most commented series last year and won the hearts of many viewers, thanks to, i.e. the so-called Baby Yoda. The show's second season will debut in October this year. There are also spin-offs planned.

Coming back to the TV show summary prepared by Reelgood it is worth noting that despite its leading position, The Mandalorian is the only series from Disney+ offer that was in the top ten. What's more, despite the rich library, there was only one more production from the platform that made its way to top fifty - This Simpsons, an iconic animated series produced for over thirty years, which managed to reach 24 place. The remaining 48 items fell to the titles available on Netflix.

The situation looks a little better when it comes to movies. In the top ten of this list prepared by Reelgood there are three films available on Disney+ - Avengers: Endgame, Avengers and Star Wars: A New Hope. However, they did not take any leading positions.

Netflix's current advantage over Disney+ can also be seen in the chart above. Nearly 75% of surveyed Americans paying for both subscriptions replied that they use the former more often. Of course, this may change in the future. It is important to remember that Disney has very ambitious plans for its platform. It is enough to mention, for example, the announced Obi-Wan show or upcoming productions based on Marvel Cinametic Universe, such as Loki or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. They should tempt new viewers.

On March 24, Disney+ will make its debut in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
