On the occasion of the recent financial report, CD Projekt mentioned Project Sirius, one of the upcoming games set in the Witcher universe.
Some time ago there was some not very optimistic information regarding the Witcher game codenamed Project Sirius, which came from an announcement to investors. In it, CD Projekt revealed that it had to write off the project's costs, which some industry websites took as news of a complete reboot of the work. Since then, the game's future has been uncertain; according to a company representative, a decision on its fate has not been made.
CD Projekt published its financial results for 2022, which were discussed during astream, a large part of which was the Q&A section. It was from it that we learned more about the situation of Project Sirius.
Piotr Nielubowicz, the company's vice president for finance, stressed that Sirius is something completely new for the team in terms of design and different from the studio's other big titles. Moreover, he said:
"In order to remain competitive, we must continue to look for new ways to expand our brands. At the same time we must be willing to reconsider our initial concepts, even if the work is already in progress. It was a difficult decision [to write off costs - ed. note], but we believe it was the right one. [...] We don't want to continue with a project that we wouldn't feel comfortable with."
From the above words, one can conclude that even if Project Sirius has not been completely rebooted, there could still be big changes in its premise. We do not know to what extent this will affect the further development process and the fate of the game. Initially, it was said that it would offer multiplayer gameplay, as well as a single-player campaign. Job postings published some time ago, suggested that the game might include, among other things, a procedurally generated world.
The fact that work is underway on Project Sirius, was confirmed in October, last year. The studio responsible for it is The Molasses Flood, which was acquired by CD Projekt Red in 2021. In addition to Sirius two more games set in the Witcher universe are being developed - Project Polaris (the next major installment in the series after Wild Hunt, known colloquially as The Witcher 4) and Canis Majoris (a remake of the first The Witcher).
