Todd Howard: “We Let a Lot of People Down"

A historical interview with Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, appeared on the web, in which the dev showed remorse for the failed launch of Fallout 76.

You don't have to introduce Todd Howard to anyone. He's one of the most recognizable video game designers who has made a name for himself for his pragmatic, rather capitalistic views and some very popular RPGs - he provided us with, among others, The Elder Scrolls series, as well as Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. We've heard enough about the latter in recent years, mainly due to its disastrous technical condition on the day of its release (and long, long afterwards) and the fact that many desired elements, such as NPCs, were only included in this year's Wastelanders update.

Todd Howard never made an official apology for Fallout 76, he might have had admitted to having made some mistakes on E3 2019, but it was a minor theme of the whole presentation. It's December 2020 (more than 2 years have passed since the release of the full version of the game) and further steps have been taken to redeem him in the eyes of fans - all thanks to an interview for The Guardian. The developer told the newspaper a little bit about how he thinks the industry is doing today, as well as about his pleasant experience with Among Us (supposedly he spends a lot of time with InnerSloth's work). But if we follow the conversation carefully, we will hear the magical, quite groundbreaking words of Fallout 76's director, which can probably be seen as a display of repentance. And they sounded just like that:

"We let a lot of people down"

So all we have to do is to be patient and count on the fact that at such a pace, somewhere in 12 months' time, we will be able to hear a sincere "sorry". In the meantime, we will leave you with another interesting work by Howard, although not entirely his:

His adventure with journalism began with a personal blog, the name of which is no longer worth quoting. Then he interpreted Iranian dramas and the Joker, writing for cinematography journal, which, sadly, no longer exists. His writing credentials include a degree in film studies, but his thesis was strictly devoted to video games. He has been writing for Gamepressure since March 2020, first writing a lot about movies, then in the newsroom, and eventually, he became a specialist in everything. He currently edits and writes articles and features. A long-time enthusiast of the most bizarre indie games and arthouse cinema. He idolizes surrealism and postmodernism. He appreciates the power of absurdity. Which is probably why he also tried soccer refereeing for 2 years (with so-so results). He tends to over-philosophize, so watch out.
