Viewfinder is an one-of-a-kind FPP puzzle experience, allowing players to affect the world of the game around them in unique ways. The title has gained attention for its innovative gameplay and a surreal mix of art styles. Some fans are wondering what platforms will the game release on. We have the answer from the developers themselves.

Will Viewfinder release on mobile?

Many fans believed the casual nature of Viewfinder would suit a mobile game. However, the developers on the official Discord have bad news for all who hoped to play Viewfinder on a phone or tablet.

Truth be told, it is already an ongoing struggle to make sure that the game is doing well performance wise. This is something we've struggled with for 3 years and continually. We do have support to make sure it can run on as many devices as possible. This is why we cannot commit to a mobile version of the game. We are very sorry for this news.

The creators cite performance issues for the decision to not develop a mobile version. It is important to note that Viewfinder is the debut project of a small studio. Sad Owl Studios likely does not have enough manpower or budget to bring the game to mobile devices. This is a sensible decision by the developers to focus on what they can realistically polish.

Will Viewfinder release on Xbox and Nintendo Switch?

The answer to this question is more optimistic. However, the Xbox and Nintendo Switch players should manage their expectations. It seems a port to Xbox and Nintendo Switch is a possibility, but not in the near future. It might depend on the success of the game post launch.

Here is what Sad Owl Studios had to say about it on the Discord channel:

Right now, as a team, we are focused on shipping on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. PC alone has many different configurations and player experience are vastly difference so we're trying to make sure that people have the best experience there first. We do enjoy making games for consoles because the machine specifications are more consistent, but we are taking things one day at a time. We probably won't ship PS4 on July 18.

According to this announcement, the team is prioritizing PC and PS5. Many players will be disappointed to hear that. However, the developers do not rule out supporting more consoles in the future.
