7th-gen consoles are history, although there are certainly still people who play several years old games on them. Microsoft, however, doesn't have good news for Xbox 360 fans. Today the company announced that the store for this 18-year-old console will be shut down next year.

  1. As of July 29, 2024, no games or DLCs will be available for purchase through the Xbox 360 Store and the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
  2. In addition, after July 29, 2024, the apps for watching movies on the Xbox 360 (Microsoft Movies and TV app) will cease to function.

It is worth noting that after the closure of the store, you will still have access to previously digitally purchased games and DLCs on the Xbox 360 and the ability to play them as part of backward compatibility on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S consoles. When you uninstall a title from your Xbox 360, you will be able to download it again.

The closure of the digital store will not affect multiplayer modes in games on Microsoft's 7th-gen console. If the developers of a particular title have not yet shut down its online servers, you will still be able to play online on the Xbox 360.

In addition, the good news is that after July 29, 2024, you will still be able to buy titles of interest and DLCs that came out for the Xbox 360 console (as well as the original Xbox) under backward compatibility on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox.com.

The situation with digitally purchased movies is a bit worse. You won't be able to watch them at all on the Xbox 360 after July 29, 2024. However, cinematic apps will remain available on Windows PCs and Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles - you'll be able to watch previously purchased movies on these devices.
