Xbox Series S Games Are Smaller Than Xbox Series X Versions

Xbox Series S offers slightly more than 360 GB of storage space that can be used for games. Fortunately, releases optimized for the weaker console weigh much less compared to Xbox Series X versions.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Xbox Series S offers only 364GB of SSD space for games.
  2. Games optimized for the weaker console weigh on average 40% less.

Games on Xbox Series S take up significantly less storage space than those optimized for Xbox Series X. This is important for those who feared that 364GB of free space on the console's SSD would quickly fill up.

As you can see from the tweet above, games installed on Xbox Series S are on average 40% smaller compared to releases on Xbox Series X. In the case of Sea of Thieves we have as much as 64% difference, DiRT 5 weighs 23% less and Gears 5, 39% less. This was achieved, among others, thanks to lower resolution textures (Xbox Series S is dedicated to users without 4K TV).

Soon we should know the sizes of more games. And if the developers will really work on the optimization of their titles, the smaller Xbox S Series drive will not be as much of a problem as it initially seemed.

He hasn't yet written a text that he would be 100% satisfied with. He started his adventure with games at the age of 3, when he managed to convince his father to buy a C64 computer. The love for electronic entertainment awakened by Flimbo's Quest blossomed during the first adventures with Heroes of Might & Magic, reaching its peak after purchasing the first PlayStation. As he grew older, he had more encounters with Nintendo portable consoles, and also returned to the PC as an additional gaming platform. He collects games and is a fan of emulation.
