Venom - boss description

Venom is a formidable opponent and the boss of Root Earth world. He is capable of fighting both in melee and ranged combat. It can fight on the ground and in the air. His weakpoint is the core located in his chest.

Moveset

1. 2 hit combo - the boss attacks two times with his sword, with the second attack being slightly delayed. Both strikes are made in a straight line, but have extended reach.
2. Ground Slam - when Venom raises his weapon up, he is preparing to strike the ground. The strike will create a few spikes. Two red spots will appear in the arena. Touching them will hurt you with a damage over time effect.
3. Ranged strikes - the boss can attack twice to create red slashes that fly further in your direction. This attack is visibly telegraphed - if Venom holds his weapon in two hands and above his head, it means that he will perform this attack the moment any of the players get closer.
4. Bomb Throw - Venom starts levitating and throws 3 bombs from his hand which stick to the first encountered object or character. After a while, the bombs explode and deal damage.
5. Large Fireball - similarly to the previous attack, Venom can only perform it if he is airborne. When the boss raises his weapon and it starts glowing red, you can expect a large projectile fired your way. It will leave a fiery trail that deals damage over time to every player that touches it.
6. Weapon Throw - Venom can throw his weapon at a player. After a short moment, he will fly to the place where the sword struck, grab it, and create a shockwave.
7. Creating Vines - in the second phase of the encounter, from time to time, Venom will summon vines emerging from the ground. They will attack the players up to the moment of being destroyed.
8. 3 Hit Combo - when Venom's health falls below 50%, instead of 2 hit combo, he will attack thrice. The first two attacks are the same as in the first phase, however, the third attack is significantly delayed. It takes the form of a sword stab - the attack flies in a straight line.
9. Eruptions - Venom places his sword into the ground - he can do it up to 3 times. With each strike, there will be tiles appearing in random areas across the arena from which eruptions will arise, dealing a lot of damage.

How to fight the Venom boss?

Your main focus should be firing at the core in his chest. It is also good to stay at a distance from the boss, as his most dangerous attacks are performed in close range. Moreover, staying in a close range means less time for attacks of your own.

Practically, most attacks of the boss are performed in straight lines which makes them easy to avoid by dodging to a side. Under no circumstances try dodging backwards. There is a high chance because of the attack's extended range, the backward dodge will fail.

Keep close watch of the events on the ground. Try to avoid red tiles, as touching them means receiving a damage over time effect. Unfortunately, they cannot be destroyed, so for a while these tiles should be off-limits for you.

When the boss strikes the ground with his sword, expect a powerful shockwave and emergence of a few spikes. The timing of your dodges is important here. Do a dodge only in case the sword has been impaled into the ground.

As the battle progresses, Venom will use his flying ability. When levitating, all his attacks will be ranged ones. He can e.g. create 3 bombs and throw them at players or cast a large fireball that leaves a fiery trail that when touched deals damage over time. Best approach here is staying away from the boss - you'll have more time to react.

Countering the sword throw may be problematic. Even if you manage to avoid it, remember that Venom will come for his sword, which means another possible attack. Moreover, after a moment, he lands on the ground and creates a small shockwave. Make sure to quickly run away from the sword before he flies for it.

If the boss is driving his sword in the ground, watch where red tiles will appear. If you are on a red tile, quickly dodge to a safe area. Staying on the tile means a lot of damage received. The upside of this situation is that you can safely fire at the boss then and slowly hack at his life bar.

It is important to find the right distance when fighting this boss. If you're too close, the window for your attacks will be very small. If too far away, the boss will switch to his ranged attacks. However, ranged attacks are easier to avoid, and you have more time to take the initiative in the battle.
