An American video game developer and publisher based in San Mateo, California. Roblox Corporation is best known for Roblox, a platform that lets users create their own games and share them with players worldwide.

History

The story of Roblox Corporation began in 2004, when David Baszucki and Erik Cassel founded the company. Before that, both had held senior positions at Knowledge Revolution, which had been acquired by MSC Software.

The company0s first headquarters was established in Menlo Park, California. The team quickly started developing their first project, initially called DynaBlocks. That same year, beta testing of the game began, and over the following months, it was renamed to Roblox. The full version of the game was released in late summer 2006.

Roblox quickly became a phenomenon. The game didn0t just grow like wildfire - mainly fueled by community-created content - it also raked in huge profits and steadily attracted a growing fanbase. Although initially developed for personal computers, the game was later launched on mobile devices and consoles.

Erik Cassel passed away from cancer on February 11, 2013. Over the following years, the company steadily expanded, and in May 2018, Chris Misner was hired as CEO to oversee its international growth. In September, Dan Williams, formerly of Dropbox, joined the team to develop proprietary cloud-based technology for Roblox. In October, Roblox Corporation acquired PacketZoom, a company specializing in software for optimizing mobile networks. In December 2020, Roblox Corporation acquired Loom.ai - a company that developed technology for creating 3D avatars from photos.

On March 10, 2021, Roblox Corporation went public on the New York Stock Exchange, debuting with a valuation of $29.5 billion. In August, Roblox Corporation acquired the platforms Bash Video and Guilded.
