First visit to the coast
You can only visit the coast for the first time once you have advanced to Chapter 7 of the campaign. You will then receive, among other things, The Dragon Slayer main quest. The party must reach the appropriate gate in the Crossroads location.
The main storyline quest involves recruiting Taash, the titular dragon slayer. You will meet this character immediately and start exploring the area together.
Rivain Coast - exploration map
Shortly after completing your first visit, you will receive a message that Rivain Coast has been unlocked as an exploration map. From that point on, you can freely return there and move around the map using fast travel. There are new quests, secrets, puzzles and locations to discover.
New companion - Taash
Taash is a non-binary Qunari dragonslayer companion. This character is encountered during The Dragon Slayer quest. You must initially accompany Taash, complete all mission objectives, and then return to the hub (Lighthouse).
For more information about Taash, please see the List of All Companions page.
100% map completion
As you explore the Rivain Coast exploration map, you may find:
- 25 chests;
- 3 hidden treasures;
- 3 Evanuri Altars;
- 2 Fen'Hare Altars.
You can check your progress on the map screen - it appears in the upper left corner.
Fen'Harel and Evanuris Altars
The coast hides, among other things, secret altars - you can spend your time finding them and solving their environmental puzzles.
Every finished Fen'Harel Altar is a skill point, and thanks to completing the Evanuris Altar puzzle you can extend your character's health bar permanently.
Chests and hidden treasures
The list of loot to collect in Rivain Coast mainly includes small and large chests. Additionally, you may encounter unique hidden treasure containers. Larger crates mean a chance to find better quality equipment.
Quests
Your visits to the coast are primarily tied to main story quests, but they are also an opportunity to engage in optional content. On our interactive map you will find places where you can start side quests. (exclamation marks on the map of the area) and companion tasks.
Waypoints
Finding beacons is possible once you gain access to the Rivain Coast exploration map. You can add new fast travel points. Additionally, beacons are used to easily swap party members.
Lyrium Dagger (Companion skills)
We've marked the locations where you can use the Lyrium Dagger artifact on our interactive maps. This is a unique piece of equipment that allows you to activate the abilities of your party members. First of all, it allows you to unlock new paths and reach previously inaccessible locations. The list of Lyrium Dagger interactions will expand as you recruit more companions.
Traders
On the Rivain Coast map you will encounter merchants and you can sell and buy items through them. A unique shop is run by a faction merchant - you can spend resources to upgrade it and expand its offerings.
Each trader specializes in certain goods, such as new weapons, armor, rings, amulets, runes, decor and appearance items, gifts or mementos.
Mementos
While exploring the map, you can find secret mementos. Additionally, they may be available from selected retailers.
Collecting mementos will allow you to gain Caretaker Power Points. These can then be spent at the Keeper's Workshop, located in the Lighthouse.
Codex entries and notes
In addition to collecting Mementos, you can also collect smaller collectibles, which we have not missed on our interactive map.
Notes allow you to get hints for puzzles or expand your knowledge about the game world. Codex entries are in turn rewarded with experience.
Points of interest, shortcuts, and closed passages
Our interactive map shows important and unique locations on the coast. These include various mechanisms, quest items, and better hidden locations related to tasks.
Additionally, we have marked all shortcuts and blocked passages - from the marker descriptions you will learn about the requirements to open them (e.g. completing a quest, advancing in the campaign, delivering a quest item).
