The Best Video Games Coming in 2023 - Editors' Choice

While still finishing this year's scarce hits, we are already looking ahead to next year's potential blockbusters. Already the first quarter of 2023 should bring quite a few of them – so here's a ranking of the most anticipated games by Gamepressure.

Table of Contents

14. Assassin's Creed: Mirage

Assassin's Creed: Mirage, Ubisoft, 2023

  1. Genre: action-adventure game
  2. Release date: 2023
  3. Developer: Ubisoft
  4. Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X & S, Xbox One

The release of the latest installment of the Assassin's Creed series, subtitled Mirage, is not yet 100% sure, and if it happens, it will most likely be in the second half of 2023. Chances are good, however, because this isn't another mega-production with a giant map similar to Valhalla, but a spinoff made with much smaller momentum. The area available for exploration is to be comparable to the size of a single region from the latest, major installments. This small flirt also allowed the developers to return to the roots, i.e. to an action adventure game instead without more significant RPG mechanics, which began with AC: Origins.

We will also return to the Middle East – this time to the 9th-century Baghdad, which was experiencing its golden age then. The main character is Basim, already known from Valhalla, and in AC: Mirage we will learn about the events that took place before the adventures in Europe. There will even be an opportunity to visit the Assassin fortress of Alamut, which was still under construction at the time. The gameplay will be focused more on stealth, blending in with the crowd and environment, while a complete novelty will be the option of using a pole to get to higher spots and slow time down like it was Prince of Persia. As usual, we can also expect a historical background and well-known, authentic characters from that period. After the gargantuan Valhalla, the smaller, more condensed Assassin's Creed will definitely be a nice change.
