The game focuses on multiplayer matches for up to five players. One of them plays as the game's antagonist, the evil Bowser. The remaining players stand against him and their goal is to avoid traps and various surprises prepared by the leader of Koopas who tries his best to get rid of the unwelcome guests.

Once again, you play as the eponymous super-fast hedgehog, and your task is to lead the resistance and face the evil Doctor Eggman and his army of giant robots. Sonic Forces utilizes the third person perspective. Like in the previous games of the franchise, you traverse the maps full of obstacles and enemies, and collect golden rings.
