The player assumes the role of a young adventurer who is quickly embroiled in a dark scheme and becomes the only hope of saving the land. Soulbringer offers an interesting magic system based on playing rock-paper-scissors. The system is called Seculorum and consists of five elements — each being an effective counter for one of them and, in turn, being weak against another (e.g. water puts fire out, fire swallows air, etc.). The way these elements work forces us to specialize in one or two fields that will be mutually complementary and negate the rest. The player can also wield melee weapons and, with progress, unlock new attacks.

When a conflict between the decimated society and the corrupted authorities has led to the destruction of the last safe colony, the humanity has been forced to return to the ravaged Earth, and re-take it piece by piece from Alien hands. When it comes to mechanics, UFO: Aftershock tries to expand the solutions employed by its predecessor. The developers have considered the players’ feedback, introducing more interactions with the environment, and considerably improved the development of the player’s subordinates. Nevertheless, we are still dealing with a hybrid of a strategy game and a tactical action game in the vein of the classic UFO, in which we manage our base and fight groups of Aliens.

A sequel to Unreal Tournament, the 1999 game by Digital Extremes. The title was a spin-off of the popular series of first-person shooters and it focused mostly on multiplayer competition. The general gameplay principles haven’t changed, but Unreal Tournament 2003 introduces many improvements and changes to the series, including new gameplay modes, a expanded set of standard and special movements and the possibility to use various vehicles. The most noticeable difference lies in the improved graphics that are based on a new version of Unreal Engine. The players have access to 37 new maps of different shape and environment type (for example desert, jungle, ice, volcanic area and space) and about 50 character models that belong to seven different races. Similarly as in the first installment of the series, Unreal Tournament 2003 offers single player mode in which one can compete with bots controlled by artificial intelligence.
