The second official expansion to Heroes of Might and Magic IV, which was developed by the New World Computing studio and released in the spring of 2002. The action of the newest expansion, Winds of War, takes place in the kingdom of Channon, which lies on the northern continent of the land of Axeoth. It has become the target of an attack from five hostile armies, which desire the riches that the capital of the kingdom, Ryloss, has amassed. Over the span of the six new mini-campaigns the players can lead one of the five invading armies. The only exception is the sixth campaign, where the five forces are engaged on one map in a final battle over the dominion of the kingdom of Channon. The title also introduces numerous novelties, such as previously unavailable heroes, new units and artifacts, five brand new locations, an original soundtrack and an enhanced map editor.

The machine was created in the volcanic forges of Mars and almost every race in the universe wants to get it and use in their own way. Playing as the forces of Order, the player can lead an Eldar strike force or a regiment of the Imperial Guard. The Chaos campaign allows us to control Orks or the traitorous Chaos Space Marines. Both the new Imperial Guard and the previously available factions received many new units. The visuals of the game were improved as well.

Elven Legacy is set in the same world as its predecessor — the world, in which elves are trying to restore the former glory of their race. The game features two independent campaigns, in which you can play as either the leader of the army of elves or the army of men, and a range of bonus missions, in which you can also lead e.g. the orcish forces. Compared to the first installment, the gameplay mechanics have stayed mostly the same. Elven Legacy, however, features new characters, unique abilities, spells, battle units, and artifacts.
