The seventh main installment of the best-selling series of first-person shooters from Ubisoft. The production is led by the veteran Drew Holmes. The game is rumored to feature drastic changes to the existing formula, moving away from some of the ideas from previous entries.
Far Cry 7 Description
Far Cry 7 (hypothetical title) is the seventh full-fledged installment in the series of first-person shooters (FPP) from Ubisoft, launched in 2004 (the numbering excludes spin-offs such as FC: Primal and FC: New Dawn). The production team was headed by Drew Holmes - a veteran of the series, the main scriptwriter of Far Cry 5 and FC: New Dawn, previously co-creating stories in games such as BioShock Infinite and Saint Row: The Third. He replaced Dan Hay, who had supervised the development of the franchise since Far Cry 3.
When is the premiere?
According to unofficial reports from industry journalists, the premiere of Far Cry 7 is planned for the fall of 2025, and Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto are working on the game (the former is to be the main developer, but so far only the participation of the latter team in the project has been officially confirmed). However, it is not ruled out that Ubisoft may decide to release this shooter at a later date.
Change of the game concept
According to rumors the French company intends to change the concept of the series, which it has been the same since 2012 (from FC3), and which - as only moderately positive reception of Far Cry 6proved - has already started to wear out. A few years earlier a similar change was carried out in the Assassin’s Creed series, which underwent a major metamorphosis between AC: Syndicate and AC: Origins.
- Initially, rumors circulated on the internet suggested that the game was supposed to be a game focused on multiplayer gameplay.
- After Drew Holmes took over the supervision of the brand, however, reports emerged regarding two productions - FC7 itself (its code name is apparently Project Blackbird) and the online spin-off of the series (Project Maverick).
- Interestingly, both of these productions will allegedly be closely related to each other. They are to share, among others, the setting which will apparently turn out to be Alaska.
So it can be assumed that although the basis of Far Cry 7 will be similar to its predecessors - in the sense that Ubisoft will most likely remain faithful to the FPP perspective and a large map offering a lot of side activities - many elements characteristic of the series will be "reinvented". With this intention, it was apparently decided to seek inspiration from The Division series and use the Snowdrop engine, moving away from the oldschool Dunia technology (based on CryEngine).
Non-linear gameplay
The approach to the plot is also expected to change, which will be seemingly very non-linear.
- We are supposedly coming to rescue the protagonist's family members from the hands of a group known as the Sons of Truth.
- Importantly, we will act under time pressure, achieving the set goals within 24 real hours (corresponding to 72 hours of the game's clock) and independently deciding the order in which we will save individual people.
- The interrogation system will play an important role in Far Cry 7. Thanks to this mechanism, we will be able to find out where the abducted are being held. It is supposed to be quite complex - our opponents can allegedly resort to lies, try to escape or not want to let any words out regardless of our efforts.
- Most likely, the interrogated people - and possibly the hostages - will be connected with the permanent death mechanics, which are supposedly present in FC 7 (along with the contract system).

Far Cry Series
Far Cry is a series of first-person shooters (FPS) with a sandbox gameplay model. The leading theme of the series is spectacular shootouts using modern firearms, but the developers are not afraid to experiment and from time to time serve players a trip to completely different realities, such as distant prehistory (where rifles and flamethrowers are replaced by bows and machetes) or an alternative world in the climate of cyberpunk (where cyborg soldiers fight using laser weapons). The series allows us to drive vehicles, including jeeps or boats with machine guns, and sometimes to ride animals (such as elephants). Starting with the third installment, RPG-like elements, such as crafting and character skill development, began to enter the series. Later installments were also equipped with level editors.
