Far Cry Video Game Series

Back in the year of its release, the brand was bought out by Ubisoft, which marginalized Crytek's role in its development. Immediately after the takeover, the new owner took up the release of console versions of the title: in 2005, the premiere on Xbox was Far Cry Instincts, with expanded content relative to the original. Then came the complete removal of Crytek from the brand. In 2006, the release of Far Cry Instincts Evolution (also on Xbox), once again expanding the content of the first installment. The same day saw the release of Far Cry Instincts Predator, released for Xbox 360, combining the two previous installments and developed entirely by Ubisoft Montreal. A few months later, the market received Far Cry Vengeance (Wii version), depicting the further fate of Jack Carver.

Players waited two years for the full-fledged sequel. Having its premiere in October 2008 Far Cry 2 was released simultaneously on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, with the action moved from a tropical island to an unspecified African country rich in diamonds and engulfed in civil war. In the game we play the role of a mercenary, whose task is to kill an arms dealer nicknamed "Jackal", supplying the warring factions. In the course of the mission, the protagonist becomes infected with the malaria parasite, which has a direct bearing on the gameplay - in order to nullify the symptoms of the disease, we must regularly take the appropriate medicine. The game became famous for its realistic fire spreading system and a sizable open world of about 50 square kilometers. For the creation of the title for the first time in the history of the series was used Dunia Engine, which is a modified version of CryEngine 1. The share of the original code in Dunia is estimated at a few percent, all the rest were original ideas of developers from Ubisoft Montreal. Subsequent versions of this engine are still being used today to create new installments of the brand.

Part Three, Far Cry 3, was released in November 2012 on the same platforms. In it we returned to tropical climates, but its main character, Jason Brody, is not a commando of any kind, but an ordinary teenager who was kidnapped by pirates during a vacation with a group of friends. Jason manages to escape from captivity, and then, with the support of Rakyat rebels, stands up to fight the men of the psychopathic Vaas Montenegro. The standard FPS shooter model has been enriched here with, among other things, crafting equipment (such as medicines or increasingly capacious backpacks) and unlocking new skills in the fashion of RPG games. A set of cooperative missions also went into production. In May 2013, the game received a standalone add-on in a cyberpunk climate called Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Far Cry 4 was released in November 2014 on as many as five platforms: PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. A mobile app called Far Cry 4 Arcade Poker was released at the same time on Android and iOS devices. The fourth installment is very similar in its premise to the third, with the action set in the Himalayas. The protagonist of the game is Ajay Ghale, who wants to scatter the ashes of his maki somewhere in the fictional state of Kyrat. Before he can do so, he, along with a resistance movement called the Golden Trail, faces off against the tyrant ruling the area, Pagan Min.

Four years after the previous main installment, Far Cry 5 was released. Far Cry 5. The production premiered on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and the action was moved to the fictional Hope County in the US state of Montana. It is under the control of a sect called the Gates of Eden, led by Joseph Seed. For the first time in the history of the series, we were given the opportunity to create the main hero/heroine, whose original task was to arrest the leader of the sect. It did not go successfully, as a result of which, in typical series fashion, we have to start a fight against the occupant. The gameplay itself was slightly changed and expanded with additional equipment, including aircraft.

In 2021, Far Cry 6 was released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Far Cry 6. This time the place of action was the fictional country of Yara, inspired by Cuba. The area is controlled by dictator Anton Castillo, raising his successor, 13-year-old Diego. As Dani Rojas, we face guerrilla warfare against the forces of order on the island, or lead protests in the streets of the country's capital. For the first time in the history of the series, in addition to wilderness areas and small settlements we will also come to visit the huge metropolis, Esperanza.

The series also abounds in sidequests and remasters. 2016 saw the release of Far Cry Primal, which moved the action to prehistoric times and replaced firearms with spears and mace. In 2019, in turn, the release of Far Cry: New Dawn, held in post-apocalyptic climates and continuing the story told in Far Cry 5. In addition, 2014 saw the release of Far Cry Classic, a re-release of the first installment for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, and in 2018 the market saw the release of Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, the third installment of the series for PS4 and Xbox One.

The commercial success of the games in the series Far Cry has also attempted to capitalize on other forms of popular culture. An example of this is the film directed by Uwe Boll Far Cry (2008) starring Til Schweiger and Emmanuelle Vaugier.
