After a few years of silence, here comes yet another installment in the popular fighting series Guilty Gear developed by Arc System Works. The game’s biggest feature is the use of Unreal Engine which supports 1080p, along with 3D backgrounds and 3D character models. The latter, implemented as a modified cel-shading style, strongly resembles original, two-dimensional sprites. Mechanically, not much has changed; it is still a classic fighting title with a dynamic and difficult-to-master combat system based on combos and special attacks (which drain a special bar). Each of the 17 warriors has a different style concerning both looks and moves. The campaign tells the stories of the heroes, but nothing stops you from enjoying only e.g. arcade or multiplayer battles.

A 2D fighting game set in an alternative reality based on how the ancient Japanese imagined afterlife. We can choose from a roster of eight characters, each of them has different appearance, weapons and special abilities. Additionally, they all have their unique stories which we discover during the game. The feature that distinguishes this game, developed by an indie studio called DojoGames, is the lack of a health bar. The gameplay is based on searching for openings in opponent's guard and dealing instant, lethal attacks. We can fake attacks, parry when there is need for that or perform quick dodges. The unique, dark and grim graphics are Slice, Dice & Rice's strong point. Another plus is that we can play in single player mode but we can also face another player, local or online.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a classic representative of the fighting games genre. It was developed by Arc System Works. The game is a 2.5D fighting game – it means that gameplay mechanics are fully two-dimensional despite the fact that locations are made in 3D. Tag system is the heart of the game. The player chooses two characters before the battle. They can control only one of them simultaneously but can also switch between them during the fight. Each of the fighters has a separate health bar. The title features a large variety of characters, including ones from games BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena, Under Night in-Birth and the animated series RWBY. All characters feature unique fighting styles with various special attacks and combos. Developers introduced a few single player modes, but the multiplayer is most enjoyable part of the game – it can be played on a single screen or via Internet.

It is the third mobile version of the game – the previous ones were Street Fighter IV from 2010 and Street Fighter IV: Volt from 2011. The new edition features improvements and around thirty playable characters. Graphics were improved as well – the character models have more details and the black lines that were present on the sides of the screen were removed. The title also features online multiplayer that the previous versions lacked. The combat system wasn’t changed too much – it is still one of the more advanced fighting games available on mobile devices. Inspired by such titles as Super Smash Bros., an unusual fighting game with platformer elements. The action takes place in Aether, a war-torn fantasy world in which people from various civilizations can manipulate the elements – Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The heroes we control try to learn about the roots of the endless conflict, which takes loads of fighting. The gameplay of Rivals of Aether, designed by Dan Fornace, comes down to fighting numerous battles on numerous 2D arenas. During combat, you may not only choose from a wide array of strikes and special skills (each character has three of the latter), but also take advantage of the design of the arenas, which are filled with elements such as walls, platforms, branches, or roofs. Apart from the single-player Story Mode, the game also features many more highlights – the Abyss, in which you face waves of enemies (either single or in co-op) or Versus - its variation consisting of competing with friends. Interestingly, you can play 1v1 or 2v2 via the Internet or in the split-screen mode. The title features old-school 2D pixel art visuals.

There are two completely new playable characters available: Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. Each of the available fighters has their own story and set of moves, attacks, and combos. The game's visuals were also improved. All textures are now in high resolution, but we can still switch back to the retro-stylized pixel-art visuals if we want to. Tekken Tag Tournament 2, designed based on the sixth main entry in the series, features the option to participate in fights between two-person teams. The teams consist of fighters selected from a roster of fifty most popular characters from all Tekken games that were released across twenty years of series’ history. Soulcalibur V is an entry in a different series that is as popular as Tekken. Contrary to the Tekken series, in Soulcalibur the warriors are using melee weapons – mostly various types of swords. The main difference in comparison to the previous entries is a set of completely new playable characters, the majority of which are the descendants of well known characters (for example Patroklos and Pyrrha are children of Sophitia).
