A survival horror game and the third installment in the Outlast series, developed by Red Barrels. Unlike the previous games, The Outlast Trials supports both singleplayer and co-op for up to four players.
The Outlast Trials is the third installment of the popular survival horror series Outlast. It was developed by Red Barrels, just like the previous games.
The Outlast Trials is set during the Cold War. During this period, Murkoff Corporation is conducting mind control experiments. Said studies are held in a special facility.
We play as one of the corporation's prisoners, trying to survive in a place filled with madmen. While doing so, we do our best to gather evidence on Murkoff Corporation's criminal activities.
The Outlast Trials doesn't have a pre-determined protagonist - we create the player character on our own. Afterwards we move to the Murkoff Center, serving as a lobby. From there, we can participate in subsequent trials testing our survival skills.
Throughout the trials we explore numerous rooms housing different creatures. The most striking ones are Mother Gooseberry and a corrupt cop Coyle, serving as the game's main antagonists. As if that wasn't enough, there are deadly traps set up everywhere.
The game offers a lot of freedom in how to approach different situations. We can confront enemies or hide, hoping they won't find us.
As we progress through the game we gain experience, used to gain various upgrades. These come in handy later in the game.
The Outlast Trials supports singleplayer and co-op for up to four players.
