A first-person shooter featuring sandbox elements, set in a post-apocalyptic world. Rage is the first new IP created by id Software since 1996. The action takes place on Earth, though the planet was devastated by an asteroid. The protagonist has to face the new, brutal reality. Making allies among other survivors, they stand up to the military regime in order to fight for their future. The player completes subsequent story missions (rather simplistic) given by one of the parties involved in the conflict. Although the missions themselves follow the patterns established by classic first-person shooters, the protagonist is capable of using various vehicles and parts of equipment. The latter can be crafted by the protagonist, once the player has obtained adequate schematics. The single-player campaign is complemented by two multiplayer modes. The players can take part in classic deathmatches, in which vehicles can be used; they can also participate in scenarios created exclusively for the co-op mode.

Time Crisis 4 is the next shooting of the series, started in 1997 and coming from coin-op machines. This game, like its predecessors, uses a special Guncon pistol. An extensive remake of Wild Guns, a classical action game that was initially released in 1994 for SNES. It was developed by Natsume in cooperation with the creators of the original. The game’s plot combines elements of western with science fiction and cyberpunk and tells the story of two protagonists: a girl named Annie, who wishes to take revenge on the Kid’s gang, and a bounty hunter, Clint, helping her. Mechanics-wise, it is a combination of arcade rail shooter and a third-person action game. While playing, we control the heroes by running, jumping, rolling, and so on, and try to aim at enemies in the back of the level. In Wild Guns: Reloaded, the classic gameplay formula was slightly polished. Apart from new arenas, opponents, and weapons, we have four (instead of two) characters at our disposal, each having their unique armaments. Furthermore, we can play in a co-op mode for the maximum of four players.

A humorous, three-dimensional rail shooter by Inti Creates studio and a sequel to 2011 Gal*Gun, a game designed for motion game controllers. We play as an ordinary Japanese high-school student named Hodai, whose life has turned upside-down after he is shot with an arrow by mischievous angel Kurona. This results in every female trying to hit on him in more than aggressive way, after as little as a single glance. To lift the curse, our hero must find his true love before the sunset and avoid getting caught by other girls. Gameplay wise, Gal*Gun: Double Peace is a classic rail shooter, with us controlling only the crosshair. We are armed with special pistol that shoots pheromones, which will drive attacking girls to euphoria and thus stopping them from confessing their love to Hodai.

Big Buck Hunter Arcade allows us to assume the role of a hunter who visits 30 varied hunting locations with 20 different species of animals, from small rodents, through bats or ducks, and up to large game such as moose or bears. Our actions are monitored on the fly by a special system that awards points and special badges. Two complex adventures: “White-tailed Deer” and “Moose” are the core of Big Buck Hunter Arcade, with six extra game modes that allow either single player or split-screen cooperation. Our achievements are logged by an online ranking system that gathers the best results from all around the world. Big Buck Hunter Arcade is characterized by its simple visuals.

A rail shooter created by Llamasoft. The player is placed in control of a combat ship, which constantly goes forward and whether it is over a surface or inside a tunnel, the player's role remains to maneuver to the sides, perform dodges, attack enemies and destroy countless obstacles. The player fights smaller and larger adversaries coming in large numbers. A scoring system evaluates the player at all times - the scores achieved in 50 levels (differing in terms of colors and enemies one encounters) can be increased through collecting power-ups (which give speed boosts) and eliminating enemies quickly. Polybius catches one's attention with its simple, but incredibly original visuals and a pleasant, trance soundtrack. Although the game was created specifically for VR headsets, being in possession of such a piece of hardware is not required.

A first-person perspective rail shooter based on the Rambo movie series. The game was developed by Polish studio Teyon Games known for its Heavy Fire series. The story campaign in Rambo: The Video Game consists of a series of missions inspired by movies First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III. The player can fight soulless law enforcers in Hope city, free the captives held in Vietnamese jungle and help the Afghan guerillas. The base of the game are dynamical sequences during which the player must eliminate opponents by guiding a crosshair on them and pulling the trigger. The developers created various weapons which the title character can use. They also used original dialogues from the movies.

An arcade first-person rail shooter and a spin-off installment of the bestselling survival horror series by Visceral Games, Dead Space. The game’s plot is a sort of a prequel to the events presented in the original Dead Space and explains the reasons why its protagonist, Isaac Clarke, went to USG Ishimura which was infected by a mysterious alien race, the Necromorph. Dead Space: Extraction is focused on the colonists of Aegis VII, a distant mining colony, and their fight against a deadly infection. In contrast to the game’s predecessor, the action is viewed from the first-person perspective, and the gameplay is significantly more dynamic and boils down to exploring subsequent locations, efficiently eliminating all encountered mutants. The title is designed to utilize the capabilities of such controllers as WiiRemote and PlayStation Move.

A PlayStation 3 compilation of two Resident Evil games that were initially released for Nintendo Wii in years 2007-2009. The productions included in the bundle are quite different in terms of gameplay mechanics from the main installments of the series, as they are not classic TPP action games but first-person rail shooters. In them, we visit a number of well-known locations and fight incoming hordes of zombies. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a kind of a synopsis of the events of the first and the third installment of the series as well as Resident Evil Zero. The other title, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, combines the story of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. Both titles feature remastered graphics in the HD resolution and support the PlayStation Move controller in a similar way to the Wii Remote pilot.

The player assumes the role of John, a pilot of the Federation woken from a thousand-year cryogenic sleep initiated by an artificial intelligence called Ellie during a great war against the Rebels. His task is not only to discover how the conflict ended but also to defend humanity from a new threat. At the core of Star Horizon are grand-scale space battles in which we participate sitting at the helm of a fighter. Our task is to aim at hostiles and make evasive maneuvers to avoid collision with enemy projectiles and elements of the environment. We can also replace ship parts and mount more powerful armaments. The course of the campaign is shaped by our decisions to a large extent – the game puts great emphasis on story and developing friendship between John and Ellie, while we can side with either the Federation or the Rebels.

A rail shooter dedicated to HTC Vive headsets developed by Ninja Theory. We are given three distinct game modes – Challenge Mode, Arcade Mode, and Zen Mode. Challenge and Arcade modes focus on combat, while Zen Mode offers the ability to peacefully traverse three-dimensional environments. Choosing one of the arcade modes leaves us with two blasters that fire icy and fiery projectiles, effective against different types of opponents, as well as generate shields that can deflect or block incoming attacks. DEXED is a single player only title, yet we are also given online rankings that can be used to compare the results of different players. The game is characteristic for its quality visuals and memorable locations, including marine worlds, subterranean depths, or snowy valleys.
