The foundations of the new installment remain unchanged and the game still focuses mostly on controlling various train types on tracks located in different corners of the world. The player can select from many faithfully recreated rail tracks and realistic models of actual trains. Train Simulator 2016 is a technical revolution for the series, introducing the game to the modern Unreal Engine 4 technology. This had a very positive impact on the graphics of the title, but it also made the DLC created for the previous games incompatible with the 2016 installment. The players are forced to build their large base of expansions from scratch. The game traditionally offers an advanced editor which enables the player to create their own locomotives, locations and tasks.
Strategy 16 September 2015
An independent economy simulation strategy game in which we develop and manage a railway network. The title was created by a three-person Lithuanian-Russian studio called Flazm headed by Aleksey Davidov, the author of 2008’s browser production entitled Railway Valley. Train Valley lets us develop our railway business in one of four different locations, each of them set in a different era (from 1830 to near future). The gameplay involves building a well-functioning railway network with railroad tracks, tunnels, bridges, and the like. Our task is difficult because of the limited budget which forces us to carefully think over our decisions. While playing, we also have to react to accidents that happen, monitor current situation, build track switches, sidings, branches, and so on. In total, there are over 15 models of locomotives and 18 types of cars of different purposes at players’ disposal. The game features a friendly and slightly cartoonish visual style.

Additionally, the Quick Drive mode has received certain improvements, introducing the ability to set the hour and the time of the day, while the embedded editor that enables us to create our own railway tracks, locomotives, and scenarios, was integrated with the Steam Workshop platform. The mainstay of the game is still the campaign, consisting of fifty scenarios, while the gameplay still focuses on steering trains, powered by modern, electric engines, as well as steam, or diesel propulsion. The graphic engine powering RailWorks: Train Simulator 2013 also received certain improvements, which resulted in more detailed textures and introduction of dynamic lighting.
