Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Heart of the Forest Review - A Howling, Barking, Gripping Adventure

Heart of the Forest brings an eerie setting, some fantastic writing, and an atmosphere to remember. The game is heavy on text (because, you know, visual novel), but if you're willing to invest the time, it will repay you with a powerful adventure.

The main cons of the game

  • Short Length: Many reviews noted that the game is quite short, typically taking around 2 to 4 hours to complete, which left players wanting more content and a deeper exploration of the story.
  • Underdeveloped Characters: Several users felt the characters were flat and lacked depth, making it difficult to form emotional connections. The narrative sometimes felt episodic rather than cohesive.

  • Enhanced Replayability Options: A more user-friendly system for navigating choices and outcomes, such as a choice tree or skip function, was requested to make exploring alternative paths smoother.

Summary

  • Overall, while the game is appreciated for its artistic presentation and engaging themes, it faces criticism for its brevity, character development, and gameplay mechanics.
