Indiana Jones Great Circle: The Sarcophagus Trap puzzle (A Study in Fear)
The trap in the room with the sarcophagus appears in the side quest A Study of Fear in the game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Our guide describes the opening of the sarcophagus in the Khmer crypt in Sukhothai and the escape route from the spiked room.

The Sarcophagus Trap is an obstacle you must overcome in the quest A Study in Fear in Sukhothai in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. On this page of the guide, we have explained how to unlock the sarcophagus, how to avoid the spikes that are activated in the sarcophagus room, and how to swim to a safe place in the Khmer Vault.
Reaching the sarcophagus
- You can reach the sarcophagus during the quest A Study in Fear, in which Indy and Annika travel through the Khmer Vault. This will happen shortly after solving the puzzle with the second pedestal with symbols - we described it on the previous page of the guide.
How to unlock the sarcophagus?
- The first attempt to open the sarcophagus will fail. Look for 2 knobs, to the left and to the right of the sarcophagus (example in the screenshot). After using them, return to the sarcophagus to move the upper plate with Annika's help.
How to avoid the spike trap?
- The characters will determine that this is not a real demon tomb and that the sarcophagus is empty. What's more, a spike trap will be triggered and youwill have to hurry to escape from this room.
- Wait for a stick to fall from the ceiling and then pick it up to use it as a melee weapon.
- Reach the weakened wall shown in the screenshot and break it with a few blows. You will not uncover the exit from the hall though. Instead, water will start flowing into the room. Contrary to appearances, this will allow you to escape.
- Put on your Rebreather and wait a few moments until the water fills a large part of the room. Swim towards the wall with translucent rays of light (screenshot 1).
- In the new location you will be able to pick up a stone block (screenshot 2).
- Indy and Annika will start to swim with the current. At first, you won't have to do anything. Use the moment you grab onto the ledge to replenish your oxygen supplies.
- Jump back into the water and swim away. Wait for the moment when Annika grabs your hand (this is shown in the screenshot above). This will allow you to get to a safe location, which will mark the end of this quest.
