BioShock 4 is expected to struggle with more issues. The game's development continues to be prolonged by the displeasure of Take-Two Interactive, which deleted the remake of the original.
The new installment of the popular BioShock series has been in development for several good years, and it seems that there is still a long way to go before its release. It turns out that the title is still stuck in development hell, and the latest updates about the situation of the fourth part don't look promising.
According to the latest reports, Take-Two Interactive was reportedly dissatisfied with the state of BioShock 4 to the extent that the title didn't pass internal review (via Bloomberg). As a result, there have been "thorough changes" in the project and in the management of the Cloud Chamber studio responsible for production.
Allegedly, the head of the BioShock 4 development team, Kelley Gilmore, was fired by the game's publisher, 2K Games (owned by Take 2 Interactive). What's more, the Creative Production Director, Hogarth de la Plante, has been transferred to a publishing position.
Now, many employees at the studio are now worried about getting laid off. During the last meeting, the Cloud Chamber team was told that they need to be more "flexible and efficient," which sounds like there might be some big changes coming.
The biggest problem with the upcoming BioShock 4 is said to be the plot. The narration was recognized by the game publisher as the area that requires the most improvement. In relation to this, the script written so far is to be changed in the coming months.
Let's remember that in 2022, Liz Albl joined the Cloud Chamber studio. She's known for her work on games like Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Currently, she's in charge of the narrative for BioShock 4 (via LinkedIn).
2K stated to Bloomberg that the current situation is "good," but they want to improve it as much as possible.
Right now, we have a good game, but we are determined to create a great title. We closely cooperate with the management [of Cloud Chamber], to outline the right path.
According to unofficial information, at the beginning of this year, 2K Games completely cancelled the remake of the first installment of the BioShock series that had been in development for some time. It was an unconfirmed project, but credible reports about it were appearing on the internet.
