A new update for Oblivion Remastered causes problems for Game Pass players who use DLSS for upscaling. Bethesda is aware of the problem. There might be a fix.
Today, a new update for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has caused problems for players using DLSS upscaling on the Microsoft Store. This update was pushed out today seemingly everywhere but Steam and has mostly caused problems for Game Pass users. Players have been quick to share their woes on social media, sharing screenshots of their graphics setting page in-game to show that their upscaling options are not working. The timing of this is especially brutal as this is the first weekend of availability since the game was suddenly released this Tuesday. Many players were likely preparing to settle into a weekend of Oblivion and now might not get the exact experience they were looking for.
The problematic update was pushed out today, and in a Reddit post spotted by PureXbox, Bethesda’s Community Manager has commented on the issue. The comment reads: “The hotfix we pushed live today was for a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting game play, but we’ve seen it’s affected some Microsoft Store players’ UI settings for graphical settings. Specifically, related to upscaling and anti-aliasing.” According to this post, the development team has assured that this is a temporary problem and that they are “taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can.” At least one Reddit user has awarded the comment with a less-than-savory award at the time of writing.
The update still seems to have not reached Steam, which could be a purposeful withholding after Bethesda became aware of this issue, or just pure luck. In the meantime, a post on Oblivion’s Steam community discussions has shared a potential fix, which could be worth trying if you are encountering these problems.
The remaster of Oblivion has catapulted to the top of the Steam charts all week. Leaks and rumors all but confirmed the new version of the classic RPG would shadow drop this week, but that didn’t stop people’s excitement. With a sudden release like this, critics have not had time to share reviews yet, but generally, Oblivion has been warmly received by everyone. Earlier today, Bethesda shared on social media that the remaster has hit four million players, cleverly using the same Roman numeral from the game’s title in an image to share the news.
Chances are that this upscaling issue won’t impact the majority of Oblivion’s four million player base, and even within the Game Pass audience, might not divert many casual players who are jumping into Game Pass for the first time.
For now, we will have to wait to see if there are any updates to this ongoing situation. Bethesda does seem to be on top of it, so it’s likely not something they intended to happen. Fans will have to wait for further updates. If you need something else to play this weekend, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is another new RPG on Game Pass and it’s getting great reviews.
