Elden Ring’s Unpatched Bug Made Life Easier for Players in DLC

This bug with the Elden Ring didn't bother anyone in the basic version of the game, and in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion players found a new use for it.

The DLC to Elden Ring gave some players a hard time. However, as is often the case, some fans also came across unexpected facilitations not foreseen by the developers. For example, a way was discovered to skip the puzzles needed to unlock the Spiritsprings in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Even in the basic version of the expansion, players could encounter powerful gusts of wind. If we mount our spirit steed Torrent, we can use these places to ascend into the skies. This facilitates travel throughout the Lands Between.

Spiritsprings also return in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, but not all are immediately accessible upon encounter. Some of these places are sealed, and the only way to unlock them is to find the stones stacked in a pile and hit them with any weapon. At least in theory.

Just a few days after the release, players discovered (via Reddit / X) that Spiritspring can be opened in a much simpler way: by using Margit's Shackles and Mogh's Shackles. In theory, this item (available at Patches) should only be used during battles with Omen bosses. However, it apparently also activates other environmental effects, such as illusory walls and traps. And, in the DLC, stones sealing the Spiritsprings.

This is helpful because the effect of these chains has a wide range. So big that we can usually stand right at the entrance to the Springs, use the item, and unlock the given place. Straightforward, quick, and relatively inexpensive (5,000 runes).

The error associated with these chains has been present since the premiere of the basic version of Elden Ring, but apparently FromSoftware still hasn't patched it. Not that this worries players, who were already having issues with the DLC before yesterday's patch.
